Jude Gilliam, born on September 20, 1947, in Fairdale, Kentucky, comes from a large extended family and is the eldest sister among her four brothers. After attending Murray State University, she obtained a degree in Art. In 1967, Jude got married and adopted her husband’s surname, White. However, their marriage ended in divorce just four years later. Following her divorce, she embarked on a career as a 5th-grade teacher, dedicating herself to educating young minds.

In 1976, Jude discovered her passion for writing and decided to pursue it further. She published her first book, titled “The Enchanted Land,” in 1977 under the pen name Jude Deveraux.
