MARGARET WILKERSON SEXTON

Originating from New Orleans, she completed her creative writing studies at Dartmouth College before pursuing law at UC Berkeley. Her most recent novel, The Revisioners, has received numerous prestigious awards, including the 2020 Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize. An NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work, and a George Garrett New Writing Award. It was also a finalist for the California and Northern California Book Awards. The 2020 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award, and the Willie Morris Award for Southern Writing. The novel was nominated for the 2020 Simpson/Joyce Carol Oates Prize. She achieved national bestseller status, earning recognition as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Her first novel, A Kind of Freedom, gained attention for being long-listed for the National Book Award and the Northern California Book Award. It won the Crook’s Corner Book Prize and received the First Novelist Award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Her work has been featured in respected publications like Zyzzyva, The Paris Review, O, The Oprah Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, and other platforms. Currently residing in Oakland with her family, she continues to impress the literary world with her engaging storytelling and thought-provoking narratives.
