He keeps singing this song, and everything in the ocean swims by him like he’s not there. He thinks no one understands him. I want to let him know he is wrong about that.

Song for A Whale: Make Waves About Something

He keeps singing this song, and everything in the ocean swims by him like he’s not there. He thinks no one understands him. I want to let him know he is wrong about that.

This award-winning story follows the journey of a deaf girl who forms a connection with a whale whose song cannot be heard by his species. Iris, a twelve-year-old tech genius, is often treated as if she is not very smart because she is the only deaf person in her school. This book is reminiscent of modern-day classics like Fish in a Tree and Counting by 7s. Throughout the story, Iris uses her technical skills to help others, from fixing the class computer to repairing old radios. Despite her intelligence, she struggles with feeling unheard and misunderstood. This is a relatable theme for anyone who has ever felt like no one was listening to them. Overall, this book is a heartwarming tale of connection and perseverance. It is a must-read for anyone who enjoys stories about overcoming obstacles and finding one’s place in the world.
