About The Author

Arthur Agatston, a renowned American cardiologist and celebrity doctor, has made significant contributions to the field of noninvasive cardiac diagnostics. While he is widely recognized as the creator of the South Beach Diet, Agatston’s expertise extends beyond popular diets. He has authored numerous scholarly papers that have greatly advanced our understanding of noninvasive cardiac diagnostics. One of his most notable achievements is the development of the Agatston Score, a groundbreaking method for measuring coronary artery calcium.

Medical Doctor

Agatston’s journey in the medical field began when he obtained his MD from the New York University School of Medicine in 1973. He further honed his skills by studying internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. To specialize in cardiology, he completed his fellowship at NYU. These rigorous years of education and training laid the foundation for his successful career.

After starting his medical career at New York University Medical Center, Agatston eventually found his way to the Mount Sinai Medical Center & Miami Heart Institute in Miami Beach, Florida. It was here that he truly made his mark, eventually becoming the director of the Non-Invasive Cardiac lab. Currently, he serves as the medical director of wellness and prevention at Baptist Health South Florida, where he continues to make significant contributions to the field of preventive cardiology.
