 Venture Girls:
Raising Girls to Be Tomorrow’s Leaders: Cristal Glangchai, PhD
In her book VentureGirls, Dr. Cristal Glangchai, an engineer and entrepreneur, addresses the issue of the underrepresentation of women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Despite the increase in career opportunities in these fields, women still fill only ten to twenty percent of technical jobs at major tech companies.
Glangchai offers a unique solution based on her own experience as the founder of VentureLab, an academy of entrepreneurship and technology for girls. She argues that giving young women the tools of entrepreneurship is a key part of raising strong, confident women who can engage in STEM.
Glangchai emphasizes that entrepreneurship is not just about starting companies, but rather a skillset and a way of thinking that is particularly useful in STEM fields. Entrepreneurship involves identifying needs, brainstorming creative solutions, innovating, and taking calculated risks.
It is about having a vision and making it a reality. Glangchai argues that the true value in learning and practicing entrepreneurship lies in nurturing an overall mindset that includes the ability to learn from failure and work well with others to bring ideas to life.
VentureGirls is a deeply informative and practical book that includes a plethora of activities and lessons aimed at strengthening kids’ ingenuity and resilience. It is essential reading for parents and educators who want to raise girls and young women who realize their strength, engage in the world, and feel empowered to make a positive impact.
Glangchai’s book is grounded in real-world experience and filled with success stories that demonstrate the power of entrepreneurship in STEM fields. By giving young women the tools of entrepreneurship, we can help close the achievement gap and create a more diverse and inclusive STEM workforce.
